Tory Sport
Every few months Todd (my husband and resident photographer and filmmaker) shoots these for me for my contract with Tory Sport. I work on the concept and creative, and inevitably we put our heads together while we shoot and try to bring the ephemeral nature of movement into a still photograph. I am beyond lucky to have Todd not only as my partner, but also my creative partner in instances like this. His technical and artistic skill set is invaluable. As is his patience and willingness to bring the image in my head to life. We shoot all of these on 35mm film so we never quite know what we get until the scans come back in. Which is a bit like playing roulette when you couple such forcefully physical poses with shutter timing. But the element of chance is part of the beauty, and when the roll is out, the shoot’s over and we wait to see what magic the day brought.
